Many beginning handloaders without a bullet lubricator-sizer have simply dipped the bullets in melted lubricant and then trimmed the excess with a “cake-cutter,’’ a modified cartridge case, in this instance, an 8mm case with the head cut off for the .30 caliber bullets. The bullets were then either sized with a tool such as the Lyman tong tool die or, as in the case of these Ohaus bullets casting, 309, they were simply shot as cast.
