Thirty years ago this January, two men with fifty thousand dollars rented a frame building in Southport, Connecticut, and started making an ingeniously designed automatic pistol, which the company still makes, along with a good many more firearms in great variety, in a much larger plant. The first Ruger pistol was innovative. So were all the Rugers that came along during the next three decades. Now, to its line of single-action and double-action revolvers, single-shot and bolt-action rifles, and automatic pistols and carbines, Ruger has added this over-under shotgun. This “Red Label” twenty-gauge will be followed, in time, by a twelve gauge - an appropriate way for a distinctively American firearms manufacturer to let us take part in a celebration of this thirtieth anniversary.
