 The Thompson/Center Hawken, featured on the cover of this issue, is the first modern muzzleloading rifle to be offered by a major U. S. manufacturer - a clear indication of the rapid growth of black powder shooting. Though the Thompson/Center Hawken is not intended to be a replica of the original, it is an excellent design for black powder competitors, as well as for hunters in areas where state laws allow the use of muzzleloaders but not modern rifles, as Dave Wolfe reports in this issue.
