The Winchester Low Wall and Hauck falling block action on the cover were engraved by Lynton McKenzie of New Orleans Arms Co. More of his work is shown on page 16. Both rifles are done in the traditional English style, with rich, large scrolls surrounding a "bank-note" type scene on the Winchester, and fine scroll on the Hauck. McKenzie says the Hauck may be the last large, hard steel action he will engrave with English fine scroll, since it has to be done with hammer and chisel in a vise, which must be rotated for every curl. Five to twelve hammer blows are required to equal one cut by hand in soft metal.
